COMPETITIVE TRYOUTS

U8 - U14: May 4 - May 14

U15 - U19: May 18 - May 28

What Are Competitive Tryouts?

Competitive tryouts identify players for our highest-level teams, competing beyond recreational soccer. Open to all NorCal & CalNorth players, tryouts assess technical skill, tactical awareness, fitness, and attitude. Selected players join a challenging, competitive environment designed to elevate their game and maximize their potential.

What's New - Age Group Update for 2026-2027

In alignment with U.S. Soccer’s upcoming changes, Fremont Rush will be transitioning to a Grade Year age group system (August 1 – July 31).

What this means for your player:

  • Players will now be grouped based on their school grade year rather than calendar birth year.
  • Players born in August may fall into a different age group than in previous seasons.
  • Players born between August–December (2007–2012) may be eligible for two age groups.

To ensure proper placement, eligible players will automatically be registered for both tryouts, allowing our coaching staff to evaluate them in each appropriate group.

Our goal is to place every player in the environment where they can develop and succeed long term.

TRYOUT F.A.Q.

  • Do I have to register if I can't attend Tryouts?

YES. All external players must register to participate in our Fremont Rush External Tryouts.

  • Do I have to attend both days?

Yes. All players must attend a minimum of two tryout dates for a full evaluation. Missing a session may result in a partial assessment, and Fremont Rush reserves the right to determine eligibility accordingly. If this presents a scheduling conflict, please do not hesitate to contact Coach Jerry Losson at jlosson@fremontrush.com

  • What should my child wear to Tryouts?

Suggested: Soccer socks, soccer shorts,  shirt, soccer cleats or turfs, shin guards & a soccer ball.

  • When should arrive to the field?

Arrive at least 30 minutes prior to the scheduled start time to sign in. If you haven’t registered online, you’ll need to complete additional paperwork.

  • Can parents be on the field?

Parents are not allowed to be on the tryout fields, coach from the sidelines, or engage in conversation with evaluators. You’re happy to watch your child through the gated fence.

  • By what criteria will players be assessed?

Players will be evaluated on technical, tactical, and psychological factors demonstrated in their attitude, approach, and performance at tryouts. Our evaluators will assess these qualities through a variety of methods, most notably through observing small-sided games and behavior and habits during tryouts.

  • Will my child be constantly observed during the tryout?

Each player will be observed for a vast majority of the tryout, and every player will be observed by three or more coaches during the tryout process. Our Fremont Rush coaches want the players to enjoy the tryout experience and to actively play for most of the minutes they are on the field. At times, our coaches will need to compare notes with one another, to discuss next steps in the tryout process.
