Academic Requirements

CAP Academic Requirements for NCAA

Division I


Students will need to meet the following requirements to receive athletics aid, practice and compete their first year.

16 core courses in the following areas:

 - 4 years English;
 - 3 years math at Algebra I level or higher;
 - 2 years natural or physical science
 - 1 year additional English, math or natural/physical science;
 - 2 years social science; and
 - 4 years additional from areas above or foreign language, philosophy or comparative religion.
 - Average Minimum required GPA: 2.3 in those 16 core courses.
 - Earn an SAT combined score or ACT sum score matching your core-course GPA on the Division I sliding scale, which balances your test score and core-course GPA.
 - Graduate from high school.

Division II

Students will need to meet the following requirements to receive athletics aid, practice and compete their first year:

• 16 core courses in the following areas:

 - 3 years English;
 - 3 years math at Algebra I level or higher;
 - 2 years natural or physical science (one lab if offered at any high school attended);
 - 1 year additional English, math or natural/physical science;
 - 2 years social science; and
 - 4 years additional from areas above or foreign language, philosophy or comparative religion.
 - Minimum required GPA: 2.0 in those 16 core courses.
 - Minimum ACT of 68 sum score, or SAT score of 820 required.
 - Graduate from high school.

Division III

If you are going to compete at the NCAA DIII level, you do not need to register with the NCAA. The NCAA has no academic requirements for DIII athletes. Each university sets their own academic standards for student athletes and financial aid. It is best to contact the coaches at the DIII universities you are interested and get the standards from them.

NAIA

The academic standards for the NAIA are the lowest of all division levels except Junior Colleges. In order to be eligible, athletes must graduate from high school and meet 2 of the following 3 requirements:

 - Finish in the top half of your graduating class
 - Achieve a minimum GPA of 2.0
 - Score 860 on the SAT or 16 on the ACT

Emailing before events

Emailing Before Events

  • Include all coaches of the program in the same email; head and assistant coaches.
  • Send introduction emails 1-2  weeks before the event.
  • Introduction emails should include:
    • Your grad year
    • Club name
    • Position
    • Video Link (embed)
    • Talk about your interest in their program and school  
    • Club coach contact info for a reference
    • Let them know that you're looking forward to them seeing your skill level at the event
    • Send out a reminder the day before.
    • Reminder email should include:
    • One item about their soccer program that is current news you found online.  Example: "Congrats on winning Big West Coach of the Year!"
    • Close with looking forward to the event on (Date)

FastWeb.org - FastWeb is the Internet's leading scholarship search service. FastWeb lets students create a personalized profile that can be matched against an expansive databases of colleges and scholarships. The oldest and most popular free online scholarship service.

FastWeb also offers a book called FastWeb College Gold that can be a benefit to young players to help read about ways to finance your future. 

College Board.org Scholarship Search - Find an abundant amount of scholarship offers on College Board.org site.  Over $6 billion in scholarships has been awarded. 

Scholarships.com - Search over $3.7 Billion in scholarships and grants can be searched on this site.
