Flash Back Friday: Fremont Rush x San Jose Quakes

Article By: Niamh Lambert Fremont Rush Topics Editor
Normalcy is back, and with that comes Fremont Rush team outings. To kick off this year, the San Jose Earthquakes invited players and families to a match, and players were given the opportunity to take the field, accompanied by the Quakes players!

To start off a big thank you goes out to Coach G! He played a large role in putting together the parking lot tailgate prior to the game. Players and their families hung out, ate, and played games, all leading up to the night’s main event.

“It was fun getting everyone together, and having the families help out. I think everyone who went had a good time. We all were just able to play games, listen to music, and have a good experience. It was really awesome to be part of something that made so many people happy.” -Coach G

Once the tailgate wrapped up players and their families headed inside the stadium. Players took the field, each accompanied by a Pro, and held the flag for the national anthem. After, players headed to their seats and watched the night’s match commence.

The Quakes took the Dub 2-0, and the stadium was buzzing with energy. Our Rush players were especially excited, as they felt part of the win that night.

“I first want to thank the Quakes for this opportunity. I think all the players had a blast. Their parents being there to see them hold the banner for the national anthem was awesome. Just seeing the excitement that ran across everyone's faces, it really was just great.” -Coach G

“The entire experience was great! What made it even more special was getting to see everyone interact after such a long time. It's always great for players to experience a live professional game, let alone be able to walk out onto the field. Hopefully players are inspired to someday play at a professional level.” -Coach Qeeks

The event was special for each individual player, and is an experience they’ll never forget. It gave them a connection to a professional club and a taste of where their hard work could one day take them. Our club President Fernando Colmenares shared with me the importance of this event in relation to player development.

“I consider the Quakes to be our local first team and I feel it is important for our local clubs to rally around them. For our players to be able to be fans of the game and see a live professional game is very important for their individual development. It gives them the chance to see soccer played at the highest level, and witness the concepts we teach carried out by professionals.”

A big thank you to the San Jose Earthquakes for giving our club such a unique and memorable experience!
