The month of October marks the beginning of Rush Soccer’s ongoing collaboration with The Pink Fund. The Pink Fund is a non-profit breast cancer organization that provides 90-day non-medical cost-of-living expenses to breast cancer patients in active treatment, so they can focus on healing, raising their families, and returning to the workplace.

This year our very own Fremont Rush 2009 girls team was asked to participate in the campaign. Their video was released on our National Rush Soccer platform across 70,000 players and families.

When presented with the opportunity, Coach Gerardo jumped on it. As a mentor and coach here at Fremont Rush, he was honored to have his team be part of such a unique project.

“The opportunity to have my 2009 girls represent such an important cause was an honor. In our family, we’ve had loved ones who were diagnosed, so being asked to take this project really hit home.” - Coach G (Head Coach 2009 Girls)

And for the girls on our '09 team, that sense of dignity and humility permeated throughout the team, just as it did for Coach G.

“It really aids in the transmission of knowledge, which is extremely beneficial to the club. For our team personally, it gives us the chance to give back. We wanted everyone who is unfortunately affected BC to know we support them and want the best for them.” -Daniela Zarate (Fremont Rush 2009 Girls)

And while excitement buzzed throughout the team, nerves were also high. This opportunity didn’t just represent them but the entirety of Rush Nation.

“When I initially told the girls they'd have this opportunity, I believe they were both excited and a little afraid. They had read their lines and practiced for days, so when the big day arrived, they were ready to go and nailed it.” - Coach G (Head Coach 2009 Girls)

“I was excited, but the day before I was freaking out because so many people were going to see it. I just wanted to make sure we did a good job representing The Pink Fund because they’re such an important organization.” - Sakiko Itoi (Fremont Rush 2009 Girls)

This year players are sporting pink Capelli x Pink Fund sweatbands on their wrists at games and practices. They’re an excellent way for the club to represent the cause and spread awareness.

“I think the wristbands are a great, gender-neutral, way for players to show their support. It brings awareness to the cause and shows that anyone can wear pink.”- Shanaya Chatterjee (Fremont Rush 2009 Girls)

“I think it shows the world a very important cause, and it’s important that we help support it.” - Leah Lewis (Fremont Rush 2009 Girls)
