Bay Cities FC Weekend!

Bay Cities FC Weekend! - Article By: Niamh Lambert Fremont Rush Topics Editor | Photo Credit: Jenna Courter.

On June 17th, 2021 Bay Cities FC invited a few of our Fremont Rush players to help & participate in the match against the Oakland Root's "Project 510" at Sequoia High Stadium! The boys and girls who came out got to meet the professional players, walk on the field to open the match, and proactively act as ball handlers throughout the game. The opportunity also allowed some players to see their first high-level game among professional athletes.

Before the game I spoke with two players asking what they were most excited for that day.

Melody Zhang (2009 girls) -

“I’m ready to see my first live game. I’m excited to be a ball girl and see the game up close.”

William Shao (2013 boys) -

“I’m super excited to watch the game on the field and be so close to all the players.”

To begin the day Fremont Rush players walked out onto the pitch with Bay Cities FC’s starting lineup. Once everyone was out on the field the national anthem was played, and players stood side by side. It was a joy to see our players stand inches apart from a professional athlete while singing the National Anthem with their hands over their individual Hearts. It's with these small moments that help build the future camaraderie between both clubs.

When the game started players were spread out across the side lines and shagged any ball that exited the pitch. They would then toss the balls back up to players so the match could continue.

We questioned a few players about their first-time ball-handler experience for this specific game.

“The game was awesome, and it was fun to get balls for the teams” - Sakiko Itoi
“It was awesome to be on the sideline & help players from both teams” - Tatiana Estrada

This experience was like no other that our players had encountered before.

"As we move post-pandemic, it's exciting to see our players attend & participate with Semi-Pro professional clubs like Bay City FC to further spark their competitive soccer enthusiasm. I look forward to working with Don & the rest of the Bay Cities FC Staff for future collaborations." - Zee Kerawala General Manager Fremont Rush
