Is It Super Dad or Super Coach?

Father's Day is today, so it's an excellent time to recognize two of our father coaches: Fernando Colmenares of the 2014 Boys and Gerardo Estrada of the 2009 Girls.

We asked the dads a few questions about being a parent and coach.

They both mentioned how being a coach allows them to help their kids grow as players. Being capable of answering both technical and tactical gives them the ability to help out wherever their kids need. They also get the opportunity of going to the field in a more relaxed environment and enjoy the game as a fan cheering on the team as they go!

Beyond how coaching helps their own kids grow as players, the coaches were asked how being a parent influences their coaching style.

Coach Fernando:
Fernando

“I’ve realized how important a coach's role is in a player’s life. I see how much of an influence I have on the players that I coach, and it lets me see as a parent how I would want a coach talking and interacting with my kids. I think it’s important that a coach leaves the lasting impression of what it means to be a good citizen and teach the players important life lessons.”

Coach Gerardo:

“For me my coaches were always someone I could go to and talk to, not only about soccer, but also life and that’s what I want for my players. I want for them to feel like we can have open communication if they have a bad day or just need someone to talk to.”

Both coaches make great role models for their players and their own kids!

Happy Father’s Day To All of  Rush Dad’s Out There!
